Betty Chernack and Michele Broskey
From the brides: “Dr. Betty Chernack wed Ms. Michele Broskey on October 10, 2015. The ladies first fell in love with each other and than fell in love with Material Culture, and eventually held their wedding there. A former train station and now a store/auction hall filled with art, antiques, crafts, furnishings and architectural elements from around the world, Material Culture offered the passion and uniqueness that embodies this couple. And the staff there are just as beautiful as the store itself.
Award winning Chef Aliza Green’s adjacent Baba Olga’s Café served the most delicious locally-sourced food around. Rather than the typical steak, chicken or fish options of most weddings, their menu included such highlights as dates in a blanket, Chilean Sea bass, West African chicken yassa and Greek braised beef stifado.
Given that Michele and Betty are a nontraditional couple, they were not afraid to be unique on their wedding day. This showed in their bridal party (which included Michele’s 83-year-old grandfather as “best man”) who were allowed to wear whatever they felt beautiful or handsome in, as long as it was a wedding color (navy, plum or grey). Michele wore a blush dress and carried a stunning bouquet made of brooches that were collected from family and friends as well as a “stem” wrapped in a piece of her mother’s wedding dress and her grandmother’s garter.
The couple tried to incorporate elements of their two hometowns (Michele is a Philly native and Betty is from the Bay Area, CA and the couple now live in Boston) throughout the night including their entrance dance to a mash-up of Boyz2Men’s “Motown Philly” and Tupac’s “California Love” created by the fantastic DJ Greg Shubert of Untouchable Entertainment as well as end-of-the-night snacks of Philly soft pretzels, San Fran’s Ghirardelli’s chocolates and Boston Baked Beans. Instead of the traditional cake, the couple opted for a donut tower from local favorite Federal Donuts. To wash all that wonderful food down, a fall-inspired signature drink was served: locally sourced apple cider with ginger and spiced rum. It was truly a magical night, filled with a packed dance floor, delicious food and lots of love. Luckily, Tara Beth Photography was able to capture charm and beauty of this one-of-a kind wedding.
Michele is the daughter of George and Joan Broskey of Maple Shade, NJ. Betty is the daughter of Patricia Chernack and the late Dana Chernack, of Pittsburg, CA.”
