Just Listed in the Poconos: Contemporary Compound in East Stroudsburg
This gated retreat offers everything you need to enjoy Pocono living within it, and it’s attractively priced to boot.
With this listing, we shift from the summer to the fall/winter vacation season for our weekend feature. Of course, in contrast to the Jersey Shore, one can enjoy the Pocono Mountains all year round, but it’s at this time of year when they are at their best.
One of the things Poconos fans love most are the lush woodlands that cover the hills and dales of the region. From the Delaware Water Gap to Jim Thorpe, the region’s Alpine scenery draws close to 30 million visitors each year.
The adjacent boroughs of Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg form the commercial center of the Poconos. Here you will find loads of businesses, shops and restaurants that will cater to your whims as well as the offices of the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau, a great starting point for your visit to the region. And just a few miles south on I-80 or State Route 611 lies the Delaware Water Gap, the Poconos‘ most dramatic natural feature.
But maybe, just maybe, you don’t just want to trek up to the Poconos, book a hotel room, and spend a Saturday night there. Maybe you might like to make it your second home. This 11-year-young retreat in Stroud Township, just north of East Stroudsburg, is up to playing that role.
The design and architecture of this East Stroudsburg contemporary house for sale are definitely contemporary, but that clerestory roof in the middle makes it look a little like a converted schoolhouse from the outside.
Step through the front gate, though, and that impression will be instantly dispelled. Between it and the front door is a forecourt that includes a fire pit and plenty of sculpted space for lounging.
Then, inside the front door, you’re greeted by a large open space with a vaulted ceiling capped by that clerestory.
The open main living area wraps around the full guest bathroom and laundry room in a C-shape. In front, just to the right of the front door, you’ll find the dining room.
Straight ahead lies the living room, filled with light from both the clerestory and the large windows at the back. In the middle of that expanse of windows you’ll find a stone-faced gas fireplace.
A door between the living room and kitchen leads to the full-width deck in back of the house. The kitchen is nicely equipped with up-to-date appliances, a wine fridge, a copper farmhouse sink and a large island with room to seat four. An office alcove sits in the hallway connecting the kitchen to the dining room via the bathroom.
You should be able to accommodate your family and your guests in this house’s four bedrooms — two upstairs and two downstairs.
The primary bedroom lies just to the left of the front door. A sliding glass door connects it to the forecourt, and it has a large walk-in closet and an en-suite bathroom.
The fourth bedroom, on the lower level, also has a fireplace and currently serves as a family room. It has sliding glass doors that lead to the rear patio.
Also on this level are a wine room, wine cellar and a three-car garage.
Since you’re probably coming to the Poconos for the woodsy environment, you will be pleased to know that the subdivision containing this East Stroudsburg contemporary house for sale lies between the Pocahontas Lake nature preserve and Blue Mountain Lake and its hiking trail. (Its street is so named because it runs along the east shore of the latter.) You can always take the short drive into the Stroudsburgs for shopping and dining, and it’s easy for you to take your visiting friends and guests to the Delaware Water Gap as well.
