On the Market: A House With a Lot in Wallingford
This perfectly decent, perfectly ordinary Colonial knockoff has one very special amenity: the creek that flows through its backyard.
The area that separates Swarthmore, Chester and Media from one another encompasses a broad swath of territory. Some of it lies in Brookhaven Borough next to Chester, and some of it consists of the utopian artists’ community of Rose Valley.
Most of it, however, lies in Nether Providence Township, most of which we know as Wallingford. People want to live in Wallingford because it has a top-drawer school district, which it shares with Swarthmore. It also has many subdivisions filled with ranchers, split-levels and neo-Colonial houses.
This is one of those neo-Colonials. It’s five years young and in great shape. It has all the accouterments one would expect in a garden-variety neo-Colonial in a garden-variety subdivision. It has plenty of space, too, including a full-floor third-floor bedroom, a spacious and sumptuous master suite and a rec room in its partly finished walkout basement.
If you’re a nature lover, however, this house rises above the garden-variety crowd. Not because of anything contained inside it, needless to say, though you see some of what’s inside here.
What makes it stand out are those three most important things a property can possess: location, location and location. In this case, the location is an ample 2.56-acre lot that abuts Ridley Creek.
Most of the lot consists of a nicely manicured lawn. The larger back part of the lot also has two decks, one off the walkout basement and another one above it off the family room.
The lawn gently slopes towards the creek, and it’s there where things get interesting.
The stream itself is bordered by woodlands and flanked by hiking trails. Your backyard has a fire pit and kids’ playground right next to the stream. On nice days and nights, you, your family and your friends can relax here and get up close and personal with the creek.
Or you can get even closer by fishing in it or hitting the hiking trail. Not too far downstream from your place, the trail enters Chester City Park and the Taylor Memorial Arboretum, giving you access to even more recreational opportunities.
If you work at Widener University in Chester or Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, you will find this house for sale a convenient home base, as it’s a very short drive from both. And if you don’t, you will still find this convenient, for you can also get to three Regional Rail stations and the Blue Route without much difficulty.
