On the Market: Contemporary Row House in Francisville
A skylit central section adds drama and flair to this simply handsome row house for sale. A deck and patio add extra space for outdoor entertaining.
Reader Scott Taxin of Francisville writes, asking about his abode, which he has recently listed for sale:
“Was wondering if there was any way my house could be profiled? Any help would be greatly appreciated!”
Thanks for asking, Scott, and here you go. It helps that the house you called to my attention has several extra elements of style added to it.
For starters, the exterior’s really nice for a garage-front. The setback entry both gives the master bedroom its own private balcony and breaks up what would otherwise be a rather monotonous street wall.
Inside, the house is built for those who love to entertain. I’m pretty sure Scott’s friends will miss his living here, for it has some pretty nice features, some of which come with the house and others you may be able to persuade him to leave with you.
On the ground floor, behind the garage, is a spacious guest bedroom with en suite bathroom that currently serves as a family room. Sliding doors lead from it to a flagstone patio and backyard.
Above this is the open main floor, a flowing space consisting of, from front to back, a living room, dining room and kitchen.
This main floor is a bright and airy space thanks to both the large window expanses at either end and the two-story skylit stairwell that fills the dining room with light from above. The design of the skylight well also gives the dining room the feel of an art gallery, something Taxin noticed and acted upon.
Behind the dining room and past the roomy, storage-rich eat-in kitchen, another pair of sliding doors in the middle of a wall of windows open onto a spacious rear deck with a hot tub and grill. (I’d ask Scott about these were I looking to buy this place for sure.)
On the top floor you’ll find bedrooms on either side of the skylight. The spacious master bedroom at the front of the floor has a separate sitting area in addition to a nicely equipped master bathroom.
The basement can serve as a rec room, media room, gym, fourth bedroom, home office or storage space.
Located just above Fairmount Avenue, this roomy row house for sale is also close to numerous fine eateries, some of the city’s best-known historic and cultural attractions, and several SEPTA bus routes. The Broad Street Line is a five-block walk away, which means you can leave your car safely stashed away in the garage much of the time.
