Philadelphia’s only Legoland Discovery Center is slated to open in spring 2017 at the Plymouth Meeting Mall, Pennsylvania Real Estate Trust (PREIT) announced today in a press release.

Merlin Entertainment plc will operate the 33,000-square-foot dreamland of young (and old) Master Builders everywhere. “The Legoland Discovery Centers have been a huge success across the globe, particularly as an opportunity for adults and children to spend fun, quality time together,” said John Jakobsen, Chief New Openings Officer, Merlin Entertainments plc, in a press release. “Plymouth Meeting Mall is the ideal location for the attraction as the mall is already a favored destination for Pennsylvania families and tourists from the region.”

Construction is expected to begin in in summer 2016, and it will have a prime position on the south side of the mall, which faces the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The announcement comes on the heels of the new that One Plymouth Meeting, an office building located adjacent to the mall, will undergo a dramatic renovation to reposition itself to prospective tenants. The Plymouth Meeting Mall has undergone its fair share of changes as well, as PREIT looks to heighten the experience and one of the area’s most popular shopping destinations.

“We are so excited to add the LEGOLAND Discovery Center, one of only nine in the country, to the Plymouth Meeting Mall experience,” said Joseph F. Coradino, CEO of PREIT, in a press release.

To be clear, this isn’t a Legoland Theme Park like the those seen in California and Florida. The closest location is in Westchester, New York, and in Plymouth Meeting will be the only shop in Pennsylvania. Here’s what you can expect to find:

Specifically designed for families with children aged 3-10, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Philadelphia will offer a fun, highly interactive and educational two – three hour indoor experience.  The attraction will offer a range of exciting LEGO play areas, master classes from the LEGO Master Model Builder, special party rooms for birthdays and other celebrations, a 4D cinema and, of course, the popular MINILAND area found in every LEGOLAND Discovery Center.

MINILAND is the Lego representation of iconic buildings from nearby cities to each location, and PREIT announced that “the local community will have a chance to nominate Philadelphia-area landmarks in a contest to be announced at a later date.”
