Small wedding chapels only exist in Vegas, right? Not according to Monica Welsh, the owner of Philadelphia’s newest small wedding chapel, VAUX Studio. The Midtown Village space, ideal for small and intimate weddings, can host about 12-25 guests at a time, and even offers creative workshops like calligraphy class. Despite being small, this multi-purpose Wedding Venue can do it all, and save budget-minded couples some money along the way.
The venue offers two wedding packages. The smaller, cheaper “Intimate Affairs” package starts at $395 and includes use of the venue for one hour, an on-site officiant, a ceremony, vow-exchange, and space for up to 12 guests. The “Best Wishes” package adds 30 extra minutes of venue time and space for up to 21 guests— it starts at $495. By request, couples can ask for time to have cake and champagne, and schedule time to take photos as well.
Owner Monica Welsh sees this space as a more intimate and fun wedding option for couples looking for a courthouse alternative. While there are many high-end wedding venues in the Philadelphia-area with large, ornately decorated ballrooms, VAUX’s modern and minimalistic design hopes to appeal to same-sex couples, millennials, or really anyone looking to have a small, brief ceremony. In fact, Welsh recalls that clients have been using the space as a way to have the best of both worlds—she just reserved a date for a couple looking to have a vow ceremony with just their family and close friends, and later have a massive reception with over 200 people.
In addition to this, VAUX is also a multi-purpose art venue. Workshops, ranging from $145-$190 per hour, are another booking option. The concept of a dual wedding venue and creative space is a nod to Welsh’s experience with calligraphy. Before opening VAUX, she has been practicing calligraphy for 5 years, and running Willow Wynn Co to sell her creations on Etsy. On top of this, VAUX also hosts events that aren’t weddings. Artist Mariam Rajput, hosted an art gallery in July, where guests came and went to see her works on display.
Checking out the space is by appointment, or during one of their open houses. Be on the lookout for open house dates and times via the website. This multipurpose space may be the site of your next wedding, art show, or craft workshop. It’s affordable, fun and minimalistic, and it’s hard to go wrong with that.
