The Philly Phanatic is One of Many Fun Surprises at This Bartram’s Garden Wedding

Other cute details: Polaroid escort cards and a waffle truck.

We always know a wedding will be awesome when it includes more than one of our favorite ways to personalize the celebration. When Bridget Mallaney and Alex Lipoff wed at Bartram’s Garden, they included two: having a Philly sports icon drop in, and incorporating their beloved dog in their nuptials.  Read on for their story and photos of their charmingly rustic Big Day captured by Alison Conklin Photography

Bridget and Alex first became acquainted at Tulane University in New Orleans during their undergraduate years, but it wasn’t until they settled into their respective master’s degree programs that they became a couple.  Alex thought Bridget was “too good-looking” for him, but he couldn’t have been more wrong: Bridget told her sister on the first night she and Alex hung out that he was the type of guy she wanted to marry.

Fast forward three-and-a-half years after their first date. Alex picked Bridget up from work one day with their dog, Iko, and headed for a hike in the Wissahickon. He got down on one knee under the covered bridge and asked Bridget to be his wife while Leon Bridges’ “Coming Home” played in the background. The surprise continued into a cocktail party to celebrate their engagement, featuring some special guests — Bridget’s parents — who had flown in from Chicago for the momentous occasion.

After a year-and-a-half engagement, Bridget and Alex exchanged vows in a wonderfully personal outdoor ceremony and reception at Bartram’s Garden on September 9, 2017. Crisp whites graced nearly every corner of the celebration, including the flowers, the couple’s monogrammed corn hole set, and the reception tablescapes featuring elegant white lace. The couple’s escort card table invited guests to replace their seating card with a Polaroid picture of themselves, thus creating a lovely keepsake from the special day for the newlyweds.  Much to the crowd’s delight, Bridget’s sister-in-law booked a surprise visit from the Philly Phanatic.

Alex and Bridget shared their first dance to the same song that was playing when Alex proposed in the softly lit tent. The couple sent their guests home with some late-night snacks from Foolish Waffles before jetting off for their honeymoon in Australia and New Zealand.
