Local Bridal Guide: 7 Places for the Guys to Get Groomed Before the Big Day
When it comes to wedding party pampering, our first thought is usually the many treatments (hair, makeup, nails, tanning, etc.) that the bride and her girls require in order to look their best on the Big Day. What we don’t often focus our attention on though is the other team of equally important players—led by the guy you’re about to marry—who also need to be as handsome as ever come wedding time.
So while you’re off deciding where to get your eyelash and hair extensions done, have your hubby-to-be peruse this list of barbershops, spas and salons where he can take his boys for some pre-wedding prep.
2B Groomed Studios
Where: 270 South 11th Street, Washington Square West
What: With over 20 years of practice under his belt, Jahmal Rhaney is an expert when it comes to haircuts, straight razor shaves and recreating the 1920s barbershop experience. Have him work his magic on your guys by booking a groomsmen event at the studio, where Rhaney will pamper your crew with shaves and facials as they relax before the ceremony.
The Art of Shaving
Where: 1528 Walnut Street, Rittenhouse
What: Have your crew start the morning with hot lather shaves at The Art of Shaving’s Barber Spa. And as an added bonus, you can have them pick out a few of the shop’s luxurious skincare products as groomsmen gifts.
The Duke Barber Co.
Where: 1001 North 2nd Street, Northern Liberties
What: Fifth generation owner and barber William Brown recently expanded his NoLibs shop and it now includes a lounge for guests to relax in while waiting to pampered. A mixture of shave and haircut packages are available here, plus Brown offers the option of renting out the entire shop for a few hours (they’ll even have whiskey and beer on hand if you ask!).
Where: 1324 Locust Street, Center City
What: Joe McMenamin is not only a go-to for old-fashioned, high quality cuts, but he’s also a veteran Best of Philly winner. His skilled team of barbers is happy to host your pre-wedding prep, but since their shop is limited on space, it’s best if your party is on the smaller side. If you do have quite a few guys in your group, McMenamin suggests coming in the day before the rehearsal dinner or at a time that is less stressful and rushed than the morning of the Big Day.
Michael Alan’s Fine Barbers
Where: 1400 Kings Highway, Cherry Hill
What: There’s plenty of room for your crew to spread out and make themselves comfortable at this barbershop in Cherry Hill. Large leather chairs and a TV create a little lounge area for everyone to gather in while awaiting their cuts and shaves.
The Rittenhouse Hotel Spa & Club-Hair by Paul Labrecque
Where: 210 West Rittenhouse Square, Rittenhouse
What: For the guys who take pampering very seriously, the new Rittenhouse Spa & Club is a must-visit: The Indulgent Shave, which you’ll find on the menu here, was recently named one of the most luxurious shaves in America by Esquire magazine. Besides the Essentials Package for Grooms (which includes a therapeutic massage, classic manicure and barber shave), they also have a handful of shave options for your guys to choose from.
Where: 1701 Spruce Street, 2nd Floor, Rittenhouse
What: Tucked inside the Spruce Street showroom of master tailor and image consultants Henry A. Davidsen, T.R.I.M is the brainchild of owner Brian Lipstein and 2B Groomed’s Jahmal Rhaney. Each guy will get his turn in the hot seat (read: their snazzy vintage barber chair)—shaves, haircuts and mini facials are the services offered—while the others sip cocktails, relax and get expert styling tips from Lipstein.
