Picture of the Week: This Photo Makes Us Cry
From Alison Conklin:
It was near the end of the night and I was sort of scanning the room, and I saw Gabby and her 92-year-old grandmother talking hand-in-hand in the corner of the Union League.
I knew that they were very close—her grandmother was a Holocaust survivor, and while her grandfather had died before she was born, Gabby knew that her grandmother had loved him so much, and that he had been a very strong force in her mother and uncle’s lives. She actually got married in her grandmother’s wedding band, which had the date of their wedding and her grandfather’s name engraved in Hungarian on the side.
I knew I had to sneak over without being noticed to get a photo of the two of them in this beautiful moment.
