Kelly Clarkson Lives Many a Bride’s Fantasy, Scraps Wedding Plans and Decides to Elope Instead

Weddings are wondrous, joyous things, of course—but who among you hasn’t at least once thought to yourself, when trying to fit vendor meetings in between your work meetings and wedding to-do lists in with your regular life to-do lists, that you wish you could just scrap this whole big wedding thing and elope? The rate at which I’ve heard brides I know say that at some point is 100-percent—though I only know one (non-celebrity) person who’s actually done it.

Welp, for those of you feeling that way at this exact moment, prepare to feel jealous of Kelly Clarkson and fiance Brandon Blackstock: Instead of just saying they wish they could elope, the couple has actually gone ahead and announced that, despite having already sent out their save-the-dates and chosen a rather famous officiant, they are going to do just that.

They told People that basically, planning a wedding is just too much in their lives right now, and so, they’re just not going to. Would-be wedding guests were told that it was just going to be the couple, his two children, and the minister, and thanked for their understanding.

Good for them. You gotta do you, even when—especially when—it comes to your wedding day.
