“Have you decided where you’re going on your honeymoon yet?” It’s the question that follows me everywhere, and I wish I had an answer!

Pat and I have been determinedly researching options. And yet, we can’t seem to come to a decision. Traveling means a lot to us. It’s something we’re passionate about, so we are very carefully weighing our options. We’d love to get your input!

Bora Bora It’s like something out of dream: the over-the-water bungalows with private plunge pools and a ladder that leads down to the ocean, views of Mount Otemanu, pristine sand, turquoise water. It seems like that once-in-a-lifetime kind of opportunity, particularly perfect for a honeymoon. The downside? It doesn’t look like there’s much to do beyond lounging around. I’m slightly worried we could get bored.

Seychelles The hotel we fell in love with on this beautiful island off the coast of Madagascar is perched atop a hillside overlooking the Indian Ocean. The villas feature wrap-around decks and infinity-edge plunge pools. The island and its surrounding islands seem to offer great eco-tourism. The downside? July is the coldest month in Seychelles.

Costa Rica It has all the activities we could possibly want: ziplining, volcano hiking, horse-back riding, jungle trekking, surfing—totally up our alley. The downside? I have a theory that for our honeymoon I’d love to go somewhere we might never get the chance to go again. For instance, I don’t think we’d be able to take a weekend trip to Bora Bora. But a weekend trip to Costa Rica may be a viable possibility.

Langkawi A gorgeous island in Malaysia, villas are situated right along the beach and activities include kayaking through the mangroves, trekking through the rainforest, and visiting the 2,323-foot-high Langkawi Sky Bridge via cable car. The downside? Perhaps not as romantic or as exciting as the other destinations?

We also looked into Bali, the Maldives, and Greece. The idea of an African safari enticed us as well. We were fortunate enough to go on one in South Africa on our Semester at Sea study abroad program and absolutely adored it. South America is a continent we have yet to hit on our traveling adventures, but we couldn’t quite find a destination that seemed suited for our honeymoon. There are also some incredible islands in the Caribbean that we’ve not yet had the chance to visit, but we decided to leave them out of the equation for fear of hurricane season.

And so those are the possibilities we’re exploring. Would love to know what you think of them. Have you been to any of the above places? Is there any other destination we should be considering? Any additional recommendations? We’d love your help!
