President Obama Crashes Iowa Couple’s Wedding, Sends Apology/Wedding Gift

Earlier this month, President Obama’s team thought that the Living History Farms in Urbandale, Iowa would make a super place for a surprise campaign rally.

And it did! It’s a great place for that type of thing. It’s also a great place for a rustic fall wedding, which is why Jon and Sayli Gibbs had booked it for their September 1st wedding six months ago.

The bride and her entourage had to hike across the street with her dress and various accouterment, thanks to the POTUS and his entourage keeping them out of the venue’s parking lot that morning (an image that does give our bridal editor’s heart some agita), but at least, in the end, Mr. Obama’s business didn’t run long, and they were able to get hitched without a hitch.

Never say the POTUS (yeah, I like writing that) doesn’t have manners, though: The couple found that the Obamas had left behind a handwritten note congratulating them on their marriage, along with a silver tray and a mint julep cup.

I think the gift is super charming—but, like, it couldn’t have been two mint julep cups? What, are they supposed to do the two-straw thing like they’re in a diner sharing a root beer float? Michelle must not have been consulted on this, as I feel certain she would have pointed this out.

Here’s the video from ABC in Des Moines.
