Bride-to-Be Blogger Jennifer: Saving the Date!

Well this is it! Let the countdown begin. Anthony and I will officially be tying the knot on April 9, 2011.

After visiting two different venues and receiving material from about a half dozen others, we decided to go with the first venue we visited — Scotland Run Golf Club in Williamstown.

There were a lot of different attributes that led us to make this final decision. For one, we really liked that they only hold one event at a time. Furthermore, the reception and cocktail hour both take place on the second floor of the Golf Club where there are no general areas, which basically allows for a completely private event. The outdoor features were a huge plus so we are already crossing our fingers for good weather. They have a great outdoor pavilion where we will be officially married and the deck off of the main ballroom — where the cocktail hour will be held — is a nice feature too. And it all overlooks the golf course. On our first visit to Scotland Run we even saw skydivers a little off in the distance from the nearby Skydive Adventures. There seemed to never be a dull moment. We both thought this was the perfect place and couldn’t wait to settle on a date.

We initially thought we would pick a Friday night date for our wedding. Fridays are generally less expensive and also, having a wedding on a Friday means that everyone still has the whole weekends to themselves. But once we really took a look at how many out-of-town guests — and to be honest, out-of-state guests — it seemed like it might be a better choice to have the wedding on a Saturday and give everyone an additional day to get to the area. Also, less people have to worry about work this way. Would you consider a Friday-night celebration? How did you finally decide on a venue?

We know there is so much to do, but right now are still basking in the excitement and coming to grips with the reality that the ‘to do’ list is long and the days are growing shorter. Less than a year to go!
