McManus: Projecting the Eagles’ 53-Man Roster

Chip KellyYes, I defeated Sheil in the 53-man projection contest last year. Yes, it was as easy as it looked.

I’ve been called many things since then — champion, Nostradamus, King 53 — but honestly, I’d really prefer it if you just call me Tim.

Kapadia is back for more. He took a shot at the 2013 roster last week. My turn this week.Teams must trim their rosters down to 53 by 6 p.m. on Aug. 31. On Aug. 30, we’ll release our final versions, matching our projections up vs. the Eagles’.

Kapadia has already written his concession speech.

Without further ado, let’s get to the award-winning projections.

Kapadia: Projecting the Eagles’ 53-Man Roster

Chip KellyIt’s time for McManus vs. Kapadia, Round 2.

Yes, T-Mac got the best of me last year in our 53-man roster projection contest. But I’m back to avenge that loss in 2013.

Teams must trim their rosters down to 53 by 6 p.m. on Aug. 31. Between now and then, Tim and I will release our projections. I’ll take this week, he’ll take next week, and so on.

On Aug. 30, we’ll release our final versions, matching our projections up vs. the Eagles’. The loser will have to buy the winner a year’s supply of smoothies… or sconces… or something like that.

Anyway, I’m up first. Here’s what I came up with.

Projecting the 53-Man Roster: The Final Tune-Up

Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Antonio Dixon. We are now just a week away from the roster being trimmed down to 53, which means it’s time to get serious. This is the last tune-up before the final drafts are submitted. Sheil gave his take on Thursday.

Here’s my stab at it.

Final Take: Projecting the Eagles’ 53-Man Roster

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Trent Edwards. With cuts just two days away, it’s time for the Kapadia/McManus battle to reach its conclusion.

My final 53-man roster projection is below, and Tim will unveil his on Thursday.

If a player gets injured against the Jets, or if the Eagles make a trade before the Friday 9 p.m. deadline, I’ll update this post. But unless one of those two things happens, here’s how I see things shaking out.

Eagles’ Roster Breakdown: The 90-Man Rating System

Today marks the beginning of a new era of Eagles football, and here at Birds 24/7, that means it’s time to try something new.

At the beginning of each training camp, I like to take a look at the roster, position-by-position. It helps me figure out where the true battles will take place, how the final 53 might shape up, etc.

This week, 90 men will take the field at the NovaCare Complex. Some are hoping to be Pro Bowlers; others would be happy with a spot on the practice squad.

Keeping that in mind, allow me to introduce the Kapadia Training Camp Rankings (yes, the name needs work). The idea is simple. Below you will find a five-tiered rating system.

Hunt Waived/Injured; Roster Down To 75

The Eagles waived/injured outside linebacker Phillip Hunt Tuesday to get their roster down to 75 prior to the 4 p.m. deadline.

If Hunt goes unclaimed by 4 p.m. Wednesday, he will revert back to the Eagles injured reserve list.

The 27-year-old suffered a partially-torn ACL against the Patriots in the preseason opener. He was the fourth Eagles player to suffer a torn ACL this preseason, joining Jeremy Maclin, Arrelious Benn and fellow linebacker Jason Phillips.

The roster must be trimmed to 53 players by August 31.

The team waived/injured cornerback Eddie Whitley on Sunday. They will find out this afternoon if he has been claimed or will revert back to IR.
