Philly, here comes the inevitable: the first heat wave of the summer.

Forecasters say we’re in for our first stretch of dangerously high temperatures starting on Friday — it’s expected to reach 92 degrees Fahrenheit.

A heat wave is defined by three or more days of 90-plus degree weather — and by that standard, this heat wave could stretch as long as eight days, according to the Weather Channel’s forecast[1].

Sunday and Monday are expected to be the hottest, with temperatures likely to hit 98 degrees Fahrenheit on both days.

We know. We’re worried, too. Hopefully you have air conditioning. But if not, we put together a list of places where you can escape the heat in the city[4], as well as a map of all the city’s public pools[5].

And be sure to heed this advice during a heat wave: Drink plenty of water, wear loose-fitting clothing, and try to check in on relatives and neighbors as much as possible. Also familiarize yourself with the signs and symptoms[6] of heat exhaustion and heat stroke — and don’t hesitate to call 911 if you’re worried about either.

The good news? Independence Day will be sunny. Forecasters say the temperature will be 93 degrees on the Fourth of July — not quite as bad as 98.

Plus, the Shore won’t be quite as hot as the city during the heat wave, so you might want to consider escaping somewhere like Atlantic City, where the expected high is 83 degrees on Saturday and 87 degrees on Sunday.
