Philly Police: 13-Year-Old Girl Behind School Clown Threats

The PPD identified a 13-year-old girl as one of the people behind the "scary clown threats" made against Philly schools. The girl said it was only a prank, according to police.

An investigation into a series of “scary clown threats” made against Philly schools has led the Philadelphia Police Department to a 13-year-old girl who said she and a friend had made the threats as a prank, according to police.

The PPD and the School District of Philadelphia sent out a joint statement last night informing residents that they were investigating the clown threats made against several schools on social media.

The girl, who was not named, posted at least one of multiple threats made on Instagram but “never had any intent to harm anyone,” police said in an update today. Information on the case will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office for review.

The investigation isn’t over – the PPD has yet to confirm the source for remaining threats. The scare comes as multiple reports of creepy clown sightings are being made around the country, including in Schuylkill and Lancaster counties.
