Chaput to Officiate at Mother Angelica Funeral

The nun was a creator and star of Catholic television.

Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput will be the principal celebrant at the funeral of Mother Angelica, the longtime star — and founder — of EWTN, the Catholic television network.

Chaput had served on the board of the network with Angelica. After she died on Easter Sunday at the age of 92, he praised her work. The network she helped create in 1981 now reaches viewers in 140 countries.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, Alabama. In Philadelphia, a special Mass will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul.
