The Sixers Tried to Play with Six Men on the Court Last Night

A 112-85 loss to the Pacers wasn't the only embarrassment for the Sixers on Wednesday.

The Sixers were embarrassed last night. They turned it over 31 times. Our own Derek Bodner wrote that last night’s 112-85 loss to Indiana “may be as low as any point of the rebuild.” The Sixers are 0-12.

But let it be said that the Sixers’ last three seasons, while often depressing, have occasionally been hilarious. For example, last night the Sixers got a technical foul for having six players on the court. Out of a timeout, five players walked out onto the court. Then, just as play was about to resume, Jahlil Okafor followed. The refs called a tech on coach Brett Brown before play started. Brown reacted accordingly.

No NBA team ever gets called for a six men on the court violation. No basketball team ever really does. The last time I can remember it happening, the Spurs actually got away with it in the first round of the playoffs in 2014. (They lost anyway.) The last time I can remember a team getting a six-men-on-the-court technical when I was watching a game was Penn, during a 2003 NCAA tournament game. (Of course the Ivy League school put six men on the court.)

You might find Nerlens Noel, Jahlil Okafor — and maybe even T.J. McConnell — fun to watch. But the Sixers have been so bad this season people are starting to get sick of it. Sure, they’re bad. But occasionally they make you cry tears of laughter. And you know they’re going to lose every game.

The Sixers: Less frustrating to watch than the Eagles!
