The Catholic school that fired a gay teacher will hold a special September meeting with parents to discuss the act.

Nell Stetser, principal of Waldron Mercy Academy, said Margie Winters‘ termination “continues to cause a great deal of pain and heartfelt questioning,” the Inquirer reports.

“She said she wanted to explain the decision and hear from parents, faculty, and staff,” the Inky adds. “In addition to the September meeting, she said, there will be another meeting in the fall for the Waldron community to talk with the school’s leadership.”

Winters had been director of religious education for seven years when she was fired. Officials with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia deny ordering the termination, but Archbishop Charles Chaput has publicly supported the school’s decision.
