The Montco Movie Theater Purse Thief Is Going to Jail

Philly's Lakisha Arrington will serve 11-1/2 to 23 months after pleading guilty to identity theft, unauthorized access of a device and forgery, among other charges.

Movie theater patrons in Montgomery County can finally relax and enjoy this summer’s blockbusters: a prolific movie theater purse thief is going behind bars.

A Philadelphia woman was sentenced to jail in Montgomery County on Monday after admitting earlier this year to stealing purses in movie theaters in Montgomery County, the Times Herald reported yesterday. Lakisha Arrington, 29, will serve 11-1/2 to 23 months in a Montco jail.

In April, Arrington pleaded guilty to multiple counts of identity theft, theft, unauthorized access of a device issued to another person, and conspiracy to commit theft, and one count of forgery, according to court documents. Arrington is expected to turn herself in to police on July 24th to start her sentence.

As part of her sentencing, she was ordered to pay out $3,789.19 in restitution to victims whose credit cards she stole and used to make purchases at area Target stores, the Times Herald said. She will also serve five years of probation after the end of her jail time.

Arrington stole purses from multiple women at a Regal Cinema in Plymouth Township. According to the Times Herald, police departments in Ambler and Bryn Mawr also received complaints from women who believed their purses were stolen at movie theaters in those towns.

On August 7th, 2014, Lower Merion police, with help from surveillance video from Plymouth police, determined that Arrington was the woman in question, and she was arrested soon thereafter.
