The Best Thing That Happened This Week
It’s not that we’re not grateful for everything he’s done for this city and the team. (“World f—ing champions!”) It’s that, well, time moves on. And even a second baseman of extraordinary talent — and a citizen of great grace and commitment — eventually grows old. (Well, relatively.) The news that broke Tuesday — that Cesar Hernandez is now the Phillies’ first-choice second baseman — was sad because it marked the end of an era. But the end of an era is a new beginning, which is what this team desperately needs. Bring on the young ’uns! Thanks so much and see you later, Ryan and Chase and Chooch! (And let’s hope the oldsters spend their golden years more like Roy Halladay and less like Donovan McNabb.)
