Brian Sims Endorses Sherrie Cohen for City Council

Earlier this month, Philly State Representative Brian Sims announced his support for Democratic City Council At-Large candidate Paul Steinke—but that’s not the only out candidate he thinks you should vote for. In a press release sent out this morning, Sims endorsed the other openly gay candidate in the race, Democrat Sherrie Cohen.

“Sherrie has dedicated her life to being an advocate for those who have had no voice in government, the law, or their community.” Sims writes. “As an attorney, she has fought toxic polluters, tobacco companies, and those in City Hall who would have forever closed 11 wonderful neighborhood public libraries.”

If elected, Cohen would be the first out person elected to Philadelphia City Council, but, as Sims points out, she’d also help bridge a serious gender gap. “Women make up just 29% of City Council,” he says. “That needs to change. We’re making great strides in Philadelphia, but we know we are at our best when decisions are made by a diversity of voices.”

Election Day in Philadelphia is May 19th.
