Lawmaker Wants to Expand Pa. Hazing Law

Law would expand ban from colleges to schools and clubs as well.

With controversy about the suspended football season at Central Bucks West still raging, one lawmaker is suggesting that the state make its anti-hazing law tougher.

Pennsylvania is one of 44 states with such laws, but it only covers colleges and universities. Rep. Ron Marsico, R-Dauphin, wants to expand the law to include high schools and clubs.

“I think we can all agree that hazing is another form of bullying, which must be stopped,” Marsico told Newsworks.

Marsico said he was motivated by the Central Bucks West story, as well as similar stories from New Jersey and the rest of the nation.

“They’re old enough to know,” he told Newsworks. “If they’re over 13 years of age, they should know better.”
