As a Gayborhood bartender I am lucky to get to know many gifted and giving women that help enrich our community. Our bars are not just bars, but community centers, a space for movements to form, art to be experienced and chosen families to grow. As the summer comes to a close I find myself reflecting on the best parts of life. For my Woman Crush Wednesday picks I have decided to highlight a few of the amazing women that exemplify the beauty of life.

Herculin Barbin

First and foremost: To my partner and ultimate #WCW, Herculine Barbin. Thank you for enriching my life everyday.

Crystal Fox

Food: Chef Crystal Fox of Giorgio on Pine serves up some of the best food this city has to offer. Not only is she an amazing chef but she is one of the funniest women I know. Her witty and insightful personality translates deliciously to her plates.

Gosha D'Aguanno

Music: Although Gosha D' Aguanno tickles the ivories all over our beautiful city, I get the pleasure of hearing her talents on Wednesday nights when I'm behind the bar at Tavern on Camac. Her piano repertoire is larger then one could imagine, and her thoughtful nature and warm hugs will brighten even the gloomiest of days.

Megan Mattingly and Destiny Elkhill

Friendship: Megan Mattingly and Destiny Elkhill began as two of my bar guests at Sisters and now are part of my ever-growing chosen family. They are women who actively enjoy participating in causes for the betterment of our community and are a reminder that love is love. They also happen to be getting married this Friday, August 22nd.

Sinnamon Burlyq

The arts: Sinnamon Burlyq is one of the glitz-iest, glam-iest and woman-positive-est live performers in Philadelphia burlesque. She is body-positive, charming, sweet, beautiful and just downright fun to be around.

Rudy Flesher

Laughter: my favorite gender queer activist, Rudy Flesher, is smart, charismatic and has a heart bigger then any other. Rudy is a community activist, feminist, performer and more than anything else a person who makes the Gayborhood a better place. Tabu Lounge and Sports Bar is my home bar and Rudy makes it feel even more homey.
