Patti LaBelle to Perform on Broadway This Summer
Miss Patti LaBelle — who we imagine is still reeling from this week’s Cher and Cyndi show — is set to play a rotating role in the Tony Award-nominated Broadway show After Midnight.
The show, about Duke Ellington’s years at the Cotton Club, has a spot for a guest vocalist, which has been performed by Fantasia Barrino, Toni Braxton, and even Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds. LaBelle will take over at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre June 10-29. Other guest stars this summer include fellow soul legend Gladys Knight (July 8-August 3), and Natalie Cole (August 5-31.)
According to AP, the singers will jazz standards “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love,” ”Stormy Weather,” ”On the Sunny Side of the Street,” and “Zaz Zuh Zaz.”
