IronPigs’ Bacon-Themed Gear Selling Like, Well, Bacon

"People clearly love bacon and baseball," says team president Kurt Landes.

A report from ESPN says the bacon-themed gear of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs is a huge hit. People like bacon? Who would’ve thought!

The team has sold almost 3,300 of the bacon hats and 1,500 bacon-strip scratch-and-sniff T-shirts that promise to smell through at least 10 trips in the washing machine.

“People clearly love bacon and baseball, and we just hit a nerve by putting it together on our official gear,” said Kurt Landes, the team’s president and general manager. “We had orders from all 50 states in the first 36 hours.”

People clearly love bacon and baseball. Words to live by. The IronPigs, the Phillies’ AAA minor league affiliate, sell bacon hats, scratch and sniff bacon t-shirts and sweatpants with bacon down the sides. For formal occasions.

Now when is a minor league baseball team going to really hit the merchandise jackpot and name themselves after pizza? Think how much cooler the Lakewood BlueClaws would be if they were the Lakewood Pizza.
