City of Hope Fantasy Hair Competition Raises Money for HIV

There’s no telling what kind of do host Brittany Lynn will sport at the competition.

Frizzing combs and hair spray will be flying all over the place at Voyeur Saturday night when City of Hope hosts its annual Fantasy Hair Competition. The event brings together dozens of salons in the tri-state area to compete for hefty prizes and, even better, raise funds for City of Hope National Center‘s efforts to fight cancer and HIV/AIDS.

Themed “Universal Warrior,” stylists are asked to whip up the most fantastical coifs, drawing inspiration from “all parts of history, time and space.” At past competitions, models have been transformed into animals, warrior princesses and even a tree complete with a birds nest on top. The looks will parade down a runway on Voyeur’s main dancefloor, then judges will choose winners in seven categories, including the coveted Best in Show.

As if that doesn’t sound gay enough, Brittany Lynn will be hosting, and yours truly will be sitting on the panel of judges. The $10 entry fee includes a $3 “you-call-it” drink special, and I’m told there will be free hair product samples galore. So come, stock up and revel in the fabulousness.

Universal Warrior: Fantasy Hair Competition takes place at Voyeur (1221 Saint James St.0 on Sat., Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door. For more information, go here
