Larry Bowa Returns to Phillies, Marking a Return of the Team’s Golden Age. Or Something.

Larry Bowa has never been an ex-Phillie. Only a Phillie waiting to be rehired again. reports: “The Phillies made a host of changes to their coaching staff on Tuesday, highlighted by the returns of Larry Bowa and Pete Mackanin. Bowa, a former Phillies player, coach and manager, will serve as manager Ryne Sandberg’s bench coach. Bowa, 67, played shortstop for Philadelphia from 1970-81, was third-base coach from 1988-96 and managed the club from 2001-04.”

At NBC Sports, Craig Calcaterra opines: “Maybe his time away from the dugout has mellowed him. Maybe he’ll be able to adapt to the gig and not approach it the same way he did when he ran the Phillies ten years ago. But it will be interesting to watch regardless.”

Calling it now: Buddy Ryan will be the Eagles’ defensive coordinator next season. Just how this city rolls.
