Philly Marriage Equality Activists to Rally in Harrisburg Saturday
While it’s exciting to know that the Supreme Court should be handing down a decision on DOMA very soon, there’s still little understanding about how that will affect us here in anti-gay-marriage state Pennsylvania. Several months ago, I chatted with Philly State Representative Brian Sims, who prophesized that striking it down would create so much legal chaos that the Court would eventually have to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide, but that sounds like it could take forever. We need to get out to make sure it happens YESTERDAY!
To stir up that momentum, Philly activists Wendy Forbes and Janice Rael, who we told you about last month, have organized a trip to Harrisburg to rally for Pennsylvania marriage equality on the Capitol steps — and, according to Forbes, there are still 19 seats available on the 50-seat bus. Interested in claiming a spot? Here’s the itinerary for Sat., June 22:
- 7 a.m.: The marriage-equality bus will roll out from William Way Community Center (1315 Spruce St.). Forbes promises donuts for early risers.
- 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: The group will arrive at the Capitol and rally their fannies off.
- 4:30 p.m. (approximately): The bus will return to William Way, where there will be a mini welcome-back reception.
The trip is free. To sign up, email Forbes at email@example.com. If you can’t make this one, Forbes and Rael are also planning a “Day of Decision” rally in D.C. on June 24, the day they expect the Supreme Court to deliver its verdict on same-sex marriage.
