Christie Has Until 2 p.m. to Respond to Suit Challenging Special Election Date

Remember how Chris Christie scheduled a special election to replace Sen. Frank Lautenberg in October? Just three weeks before the general election already taking place? Unnecessarily using tens of millions of taxpayer dollars? Which he said previously that he’d never, ever do?

Anways, state Democrats were pretty upset. They see it not only as a boondoggle, but an obvious attempt to make sure his own gubernatorial race isn’t on the same ballot as a high-turnout election featuring Cory Booker. So on behalf of many of them, Somerset County Democratic Chairwoman Peg Schaffer is suing to push it back to November. (Another legislator, meanwhile, has filed legislation to push the general to October 16th.) Chris Christie has until 2 p.m. today to file any sort of counter-suit/appeal. [AP]
