Buy This: Cute Children’s Book About Gay Uncles
An illustrated and real-life image of author Jeff Rivera (right) and his partner Geovanny.
I know what I’m putting in my niece and nephew’s Christmas stockings this year. Jeff Rivera, author of the popular Um … Mommy, I Think I Flushed My Brother Down the Toilet, recently published My Two Uncles, a story about him and his partner, Geovanny, and their gaggle of nieces and nephews. The rhyming tale follows them on a typical day of babysitting — from playground time (“My two uncles they take me out to play; they take me out to have some fun every single day”) to a quick lesson in the garden (“My two uncles teach me all they know, how to read, how to write … and how my flowers grow”) and finally bedtime (My two uncles say I better get some sleep; they tuck me in, and give me hugs, and cover me head to feet”).
The pages are filled with Tariq Saeed’s adorable illustrations of Rivera and his partner, who are depicted wearing slick name-brand duds and living in a home with lots of art and appropriate mood lighting — just like every good gay uncle oughta.
