PA Senator Bob Casey Endorses Gay Marriage

The Democratic lawmaker announces his support for gay marriage, saying DOMA should be repealed.

Last week, Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey was flooded with calls from voters urging him to endorse gay marriage. Philly Representative Brian Sims even spoke up in an open letter that spread like crazy around the web. Well, it seems the senator has heard the calls and he’s had a change of mind.

In an interview with Philadelphia Gay News, the senator said, “After much deliberation and after reviewing the legal, public policy and civil-rights questions presented, I support marriage equality for same-sex couples and believe that DOMA should be repealed.”

Sims released a statement afterward praising Casey for his words, saying, “Senator Casey is a thoughtful and contemplative man who today not only listened to the millions of voices of Pennsylvanians calling for him to support same-sex marriage, but strongly voiced that support as well. … I am please to see Senator Casey responding to the voices of his constituents and am eager to work with him in reaching out to the hundreds of thousands of LGBT Pennsylvanians who can now count on his support of LGBT equality.”
