Sixers Ponder Trade for Atlanta’s Josh Smith, Hoping You Don’t Notice Atlanta Doesn’t Want Him Anymore

Last summer, the 76ers decided to make a trade for a talented-but-mercurial star, hoping the acquisition of Andrew Bynum would prove a launchpad for championship contention. So far, he’s failed to take the court for the Sixers—and may never do so, according to some speculation.

So now, at mid-season, the Sixers have decided to change approach and discuss a trade for … a talented-but-mercurial star, Josh Smith of Atlanta:

Hoopsworld reports: “According to a pair of league sources with knowledge of the discussions, the Atlanta Hawks approached the Sixers seeking to acquire Evan Turner and Spencer Hawes in exchange for forward Josh Smith. Smith will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.”

Worthy of noting: A Google search for “Josh Smith” and “bad atttude” brings up 1.1 million results. He’s a great scorer and a pain in the butt. Which means that Philadelphia might fall in love with him. Maybe this isn’t such a bad idea after all.
