Tom Corbett Has More Money Than Popularity
Now, it’s true that Gov. Tom Corbett isn’t really popular in the state of Pennsylvania—remember those polls that came out last week giving him just a 36 percent approval rating? Those happened even before his son-in-law was busted for stealing money in an FBI sting operation.
But, you know, even if Gov. Corbett isn’t rich in support or reliable family members close to home, he’s rich in something else important: Actual money.
According to year end campaign finance reports filed Jan. 31, the Tom Corbett for Governor committee has $3,503,230 on hand. The number includes $2.05 million he had at the end of 2011 minus $1.44 million of 2012 expenses. That means he raised $2.9 million in 2012.
Corbett then reportedly said: “If had $100 for every percentage of support I have from Pennsylvanians, I’d be in good shape. Wait. What did you say?” In the meantime, he faces some fund-raising competition from Dem. Rep. Allyson Schwartz, with $3.11 million, and Treasurer Rob McCord, with $1.4 million in the bank.
