VIDEO: Did Cecily Tynan Call Adam Joseph a Moron?

Last night, the Philadelphia Twitter community took a brief detour from its prolific discussion of the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy to debate whether or not 6-ABC meteorologist Cecily Tynan called colleague Adam Joseph a “moron” after Joseph began a segment without his microphone turned on. (Watch the interaction in its entirety in the video, above).

Tynan took a break from her duties to jump on Twitter and defend herself:

But Joseph seemed to think there was at least a possibility that Tynan had used the m-word:

Tynan probably should have let the matter rest. Instead, she returned to Twitter and clarified — or would contradicted be the better word? — her previous statement:

As seen in the above video, after the “moron” or “more on” incident (or non-incident?), anchor heavyweight Jim Gardner, clearly a little punchy, issued a denial on behalf of the entire “family” at Action News:

“There comes a point where we have to sort of figure out how closely we should respond to what you folks have to say on social media, on Twitter for instance. And maybe I shouldn’t even acknowledge this. But I think it’s important that the folks who thought that Cecily called Adam an untoward name when Adam was having trouble with his microphone, that’s not at all true. I-I-I really shouldn’t even say the word. It begins with an M and it ends with an N…”

Laughter began off-camera.

“…And then there’s an O and an R and an O in there somewhere. What Cecily was saying was, ‘Do you want mine on, my microphone on…’ So, if you thought that Cecily called Adam an untoward name, that’s not the case at all. We don’t do that here. We’re a family. We love each other.”

Off-camera laughter and conversation increased. Gardner smiled, turned and said:

“You’re acting like a moron!”

Two of the town’s biggest gossips made their opinions known.

Daily News gossip columnist Dan Gross didn’t see room for debate:

Hugh E. Dillon of PhillyChitChat (and a Philly Post contributor), sided with the TV personalities, perhaps unsurprisingly (he likes to get party invites):

None of the Action News “family” has commented since last night.

Meanwhile, others on Twitter have offered their thoughts on what Tynan actually said.

Was Tynan craving a Skor candy bar?

Was Joseph a little too excited by the weather?

Or was Tynan suggesting that they check out the game, assuming there was a game on?

All of which led to the inevitable.
