Chick-fil-A’s Fruitcake Flap

It's not a gay slur, says the fast food chain

A new flyer that was distributed by Chick-fil-A in the Atlanta area has created quite a stir among LGBT activists who have already taken the fast food chain to task for its support of anti-gay hate groups. In its latest move, a Georgia franchise claims, “Only a fruitcake wouldn’t love our party trays,” to advertise its catering services.

But the company says the quip isn’t meant to offend LGBT people – and that it’s not a gay slur.

“This is an advertisement that a locally owned and operated restaurant has been using for the past five years to promote Chick-fil-A’s catering options during the holidays,” Steve Robinson, Chick-fil-A’s executive vice president and CMO, told The Advocate. “It was simply a play on words referring to the traditional holiday food, and the restaurant had no intention of offending anyone whatsoever. We regret the flier may have been taken out of context.”

What do you think? Is it a gay slur or not?
