Steve Sabol, NFL Films President, Dead at 69

Moorestown native and Haverford School graduate Steve Sabol, president of NFL films, has died of brain cancer at the age of 69. Sabol won over 40 Emmys during his career. His father, Ed, the founder of NFL Films, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last year.. When Ed Sabol secured the video rights to the 1962 NFL Championship game between the Giants and the Packers, his only film experience came from making family videos and taping Steve’s high school games. Steve Sabol was summoned back home from college to help his father and held one of the cameras used to chronicle the ’62 contest. The Sabols never looked back. Steve took the reins of NFL Films in 1985 and was acting president at the time of his death. [L.A. Times]
