South Jersey Native Mike Trout Makes Sports Illustrated Cover

Maybe you’ve been avoiding baseball news altogether to spare yourself the embarrassment of knowing how the Phils are doing. Maybe you’ve been busy hating Bryce Harper. Either way, if you haven’t been paying attention to the happenings of the American League this year, you might not have caught wind of the guy baseball nerds have been drooling over since late April. Cumberland County native Mike Trout was called up to the Bigs early in the 2012 season. Since then, the third baseman has played in 101 games for the Angels. He’s swiped 39 bags and belted 24 homers while hitting .343. This week Trout, who turned 21 earlier this month, is on the cover of Sports Illustrated under text that reads, “The Supernatural.” Ain’t bad for a kid from South Jersey. [NJ.com]
