Thousands of Firefighters to March on City Hall on Thursday

Approximately 3,500 firefighters, in town for a convention, plan to march down Broad Street to City Hall around lunchtime on Thursday. The protest is said to be a response to Mayor Nutter’s inaction on a July 2nd arbitration panel ruling that mostly upheld a 2010 decision. The ruling grants Philly’s firefighters retroactive pay raises and protection from furloughs. Mayor Nutter has until August 2nd to decide to accept or appeal the July ruling. He didn’t respond to an invitation to address the convention on Monday. [Daily News]
