Governor Christie Set to Sign Bill to Send Non-Violent Offenders Rehab Instead of Jail
On Thursday morning, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is expected to sign a bill that will, eventually, sentence non-violent drug offenders in the Garden State to rehab instead of prison. The legislation calls for a systematic transition to take place over five years that will expand eligibility for the state’s rehabilitation program. Basically, if an offender is addicted to drugs and didn’t hurt anybody, they’ll get help instead of jail time. [NJ.com]
