City Council Officially Passes $3.6 Billion Budget

Philadelphia’s City Council voted to officially pass the proposed $3.6 billion budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The bill that raised property taxes 3.6 percent—and officially tabled Mayor Nutter’s proposed AVI tax reassessment at least a year—passed on a 12-4 vote and should generate and additional $20 million for the Philadelphia School District. That—coupled with $20 million raised through a bump in the Use and Occupancy tax on businesses—will give the district an additional $40 million for the upcoming year. [Inquirer]
