What We Love: Gay Father’s Day Ad

JC Penney celebrates real-life gay Dads

Take this, One Million Moms. In response to the homophobic backlash for hiring Ellen DeGeneres as the new celebrity spokesperson for the newly rebranded JC Penney, the gay-friendly retail chain has unveiled a new Father’s Day ad this month that’s aimed at gay Daddies.

The ad features real-life proud papas Todd Koch and Cooper Smith with their kids Claire and Mason.

“What makes Dad so cool?” the ad asks. “He’s the swim coach, tent maker, best friend, bike fixer and hug giver – all rolled into one. Or two.”

Okay, so the tent maker part may be a little too ripe for jokes. But we have to hand it to JC Penney. They’ve really put their money where there mouth is by supporting the LGBT community while the critics blast them for it. Keep that in mind when you’re shopping for Dad this month.
