What We Love: Heart & Soul

Eight artists, eight pianos, ready to play in eight locations around Philly

Who hasn’t harbored a few rock star fantasies? Thanks to a new program called Heart & Soul we get the chance to tickle the ivories throughout University City next month. Eight pianos that have been decorated by eight artists are being shared in eight public spaces – all for the sake of making a little impromptu art this summer.

Channel your inner Liberace (or Elton John – feathers and all) starting June 7 through 17 at the following locations:

The Porch at 30th Street Station
Drexel Park
Clark Park
Drexel Dragon Statue
University Square
Locust Walk
Radian Plaza
The Science Center

The upright pianos all sport designs by local artists including Terry Adkins, Joe Boruchow, Justin Duerr, Melissa Maddoni Haims, Katie Holeman, Thom Lessner, Kali Yuga Zoo Brigade and The Heads of State.

But before these eight pop-ups are placed throughout University City, there’s an opening reception (June 6 at 6 p.m.) at the Porch at 30th Station where all eight pianos can be viewed (and performed on) for the very first time.

So who wants to join us for an outdoor cabaret – Liza-style?
