Romney Edges Santorum by Eight Votes in Iowa Caucus

Romney Wins Iowa Caucus by Eight Votes. Yes, that means that Rick Santorum was less than 10 votes away from winning the Iowa caucus. Now, it’s on to New Hampshire where the former Pennsylvania senator will be treated as a viable candidate. [CBS 3]

Larry Platt vs. Councilwoman Tasco. Who ya got? The editor of the Daily News and Councilwoman Marian Tasco had a serious conversation about Tasco’s participation in the DROP program (re: taking nearly $500,000 and not actually retiring). Tasco called Platt after the paper ran a cover story on her “retirement” to insist that she’s entitled to the money and accuse the DN of being racist. Also, she’d like to remind us that City Council doesn’t get Flag Day off anymore. [Daily News]

Plea Taken in Facebook Murder Plot. The woman who posted on Facebook that she’d pay anyone $1,000 to kill her baby-daddy has taken a plea deal that will make her immediately eligible for parole. She’ll serve five years of probation. [Daily News]

Winter Classic Brawl. Would it really be that great of a rivalry if Flyers and Rangers fans weren’t beating the hell out of each other outside Geno’s? Probably, but that doesn’t seem to stop these guys. [Deadspin]

Man Stabs Dog to Death in West Philly. Two friends(?) shared ownership of two dogs and got into a heated argument over whose turn it was to buy dog food. As tempers rose, one guy grabbed a butcher’s knife and stabbed one of the female pit bulls to death. [6 ABC]

Boothwyn EMT Charged in NYE Hit-and-Run. Matthew Cooper—a 24-year-old EMT in Delaware County—has been charged with the hit-and-run that has left a 33-year-old father of two in the hospital. [FOX 29]
