Gun Toting Mom Kills Attacker. A 19-year-old pistol whipped a young man and shot him in the leg inside an apartment building stairwell last night. The victim’s mother heard the attack from her upstairs apartment building, grabbed her legally registered gun, came down and shot and killed the assailant as he robbed her son. [NBC Philadelphia]

No Christmas for Some School District Employees. A number of employees of the Philadelphia School District did not receive their regularly scheduled paychecks on December 22nd. Those who use direct deposit got paid, but many of the teachers who receive checks are still waiting for their money. [Inquirer]

New Law for Teen Drivers. A new law went into effect yesterday that limits the number of passengers a new driver can have in his or her car. It also adds five hours of bad weather driving and 10 hours of nighttime driving to the practice requirement for drivers with a learner’s permit. [Inquirer]
