The Real Housewives had nothing on the guys from the A List New York this past season where there was no shortage of drama. One of the cast members of the hit reality series – T.J. Kelly – is coming to Philly next week to judge the Mr. Gay nationals (Nov. 19) at Voyeur.

As Kelly navigates life after parting professional ways with his best friend this season, we wondered what he expects from the men who will hit the catwalk for this country-wide competition. Here’s what he told us exclusively:

What do you expect from the guys competing for Mr. Gay this year?

I expect a fierce walk and killer smiles. Mr. Gay U.S.A. should evoke confidence and class. He should be able to emote self esteem without coming across cocky and show he is proud to be who is in wearing that crown.

What advice could you give the contestants to impress the judges?

Be yourself! Show the real person and not what they anticipate we want to see. Each of us are unique and we are looking for that uniqueness in the contestants.

After being featured on the A List, what’s an important lesson you’ve personally learned about being in the spotlight?

Remembering to stay true to myself. People have been so supportive, but there is a downside to everything. When you expose yourself to the general public everyone has an opinion.

Mr. Gay, Nov. 19, 9 p.m., Voyeur, 1221 St. James St. (the welcome party is Nov. 18, 8 p.m., at Woody’s, 202 S. 13th St., with a Q&A session).
