The Check-Up: Women Coffee Drinkers Are Less Depressed

Looks like there's more to your a.m. jolt than, well, a jolt

Ah yes, a reason for me to stick with my morning cup of coffee. A recent study found that women who drink coffee are 20 percent less likely to be depressed than their non-coffee-drinking peers. It may have something to do with caffeine, but other foods with caffeine content—from chocolate to soda—didn’t have the same depression-lowering effect. Which means, of course, that you should most definitely keep that Starbucks pumpkin-spice latte in your rotation, ladies (though I’d recommend a “skinny” version to save you some calories. And please, hold the whipped cream).
