Artsy? Design Your Own Condoms

Philly's Department of Public Health launches art contest

We’ve heard of wrapping your rascal and protecting your willy, but the next best condom slogan could be yours. Philadelphia’s Department of Public Health (DOPH) is sponsoring its first-ever condom art contest that officially launches Friday, Nov. 19.

As Philly suffers from record STD outbreaks, the contest is designed to help support healthy condom use and to bring attention to effective safe sex practices for LGBT and straight folks alike.

“When used properly, condoms decrease the likelihood of transmission of sexually transmitted diseases,” reports the DOPH, which currently manages a comprehensive network of condom distribution sites (everywhere from churches and corner stores to salons, clubs, bathhouses and adult bookstores) in the city via the STD Control Program.

You have until Nov. 28 to submit your one-of-a-kind love sock design. Here are some guidelines to keep in mind:

-Be at least 18 years of age.
-Only one entry per person.
-All artwork must be original (no “borrowing” copyright-protected images).
-Submit your idea online as a JPG starting tomorrow.
-If you submit an idea, the DOPH owns it.
-If you work for the city or are related or married to someone who does, you can still enter this contest. But you can’t accept any prizes.
-Winners, selected through online voting, each receive $250.
