What to watch tonight: Italian vistas and con men

Rent It: Letters to Juliet (PG, 2010). Expecting a treacly premise, I instead found a much smarter and resonant rom-com starring the luminous Amanda Seyfriend and Vanessa Redgrave. The ending is a bit of a letdown, but it’s hard to care when looking at the gorgeous Italian vistas. My Grade: B+

Queue It: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (PG, 1988). It is not perfect. But no matter how many times I’ve seen it, Michael Caine and Steve Martin — who play the battling, bumbling con men — still make me laugh out loud. “Excuse me? May I go to the bathroom first?” My Grade: A-

Reminder: On Fridays throughout October, I’ll be counting down my picks for the scariest movies of all time … until we get to #1 on Friday, October 29th. Now’s your chance to let me know what should be on the list. Post a comment and tell me about the scariest movie you’ve ever seen.
