Where We’re Eating: Hoof + Fin

Hoof + Fin,  Queen Village

Despite the questionable moniker (insert hoof-and-mouth joke here), the Argentine-inspired BYO that replaced Gayle has already been embraced by the neighborhood. As it should be: You don’t see a lot of Argentine fare around these parts, and H+F has the price point and savvy service to keep folks coming back, even if some dishes aren’t quite there yet. A fluke carpaccio disappointed—the delicate fish was overwhelmed by tangy grapefruit and the heft of truffle oil—and a gloppy corn-and-cheese empanada was forgettable, but there’s promise here: Meat comes beautifully seasoned, and the arroz a la gallega—yellow rice packed with seafood and chorizo—is a winner. Insider tip: Want quiet? Go early. When full, this place is surprisingly loud.
